Self-love, Why Is It Important? Estimated reading time: 4 minutesSelf-love is a necessity. Many of us neglect our needs as our lives become busy and our days become fuller. We are putting others first while cultivating feelings of exhaustion and tiredness. These have a knock-on effect on how we look after ourselves, so let’s talk about bringing back some balance and carving out a little time to indulge yourself—showing you as much love as you have been giving others. After all, as Eleanor Brownn was once quoted as saying: Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel. What does self-love mean?Self-love can be as simple as grabbing a book, or a delicious drink, cosying up on a comfy chair, or going for a leisurely walk and stopping at a little coffee shop. You should do whatever you decide you need to fill yourself with love and affection. It should nourish your mind, body, and soul and leave you glowing. In return, your loved ones will receive even more love from you as you serve them from a full cup.Take a herbal bathOne of our favourite ways to relax and show ourselves some self-love is to take a long hot luxurious bath by candlelight while listening to some relaxing, soothing music. There is no rushing, no being disturbed, just time to breathe and be. There is nothing quite like making your own bath mixture for a truly relaxing herbal bath. And remember to spend some time caring for your skin by gently buffing it with an exfoliator. We enjoy this dried chamomile and lavender bath mixture:(Click on the picture below to print)Add tea and a face maskAnother way to achieve maximum relaxation results is to sip a cup of chamomile tea while soaking away your stress and worries. Even better, why not add a homemade honey and lavender face mask to this scenario? Begin by removing any dead skin cells; facial cleansing rounds make a brilliant eco-friendly alternative to many facial scrubs and liquids, but you choose what you are comfortable with. Follow this with the application of the face mask shown below. Honey has excellent antiseptic properties, as well as being a fantastic moisturiser.(Click on the picture below to print)When you have finished bathing and feel wonderfully calm and pampered, try using an aloe vera body cream, it has many beautiful properties. Refresh your eyes if they feel tired by spending a few minutes alternating between splashing cold water over your closed eyes and placing a warm flannel on them. Do this several times, ending with a splash of cold water before gently patting your eyes dry. Then sit quietly with your feet up and a slice of cucumber over each closed eye for ten minutes, enjoying the peace of just being.Self-love is not selfishWhatever you choose to do, giving yourself some quality time is never wasted time. Spending time showing yourself some self-care also teaches your loved ones that they should care for themselves too. And it shows them that the person they love and adore feels the same way and that their love does mean something. So go on, take that time and show yourself some love! For more information on why self-care is so important, click here.
